It’s a female take-over for new music Friday!

Power Of The Pen highlights dope women with incredible bars/vocals each week. 

2021 XXL Freshman Lakeyah dropped bars over Lil Kim’s “The Jump Off.” You can hear Lakeyah’s confidence on the track. A notable line includes when she said, “All of us can’t be up at the top; it’s only one boss.” She also acknowledges that she’s a rookie, but she’s putting in the work and here to stay. 

 

Latto dropped “ a new freestyle after some online critics had mixed feelings about “Big Energy.” The “B*tch From Da Souf” reminded haters her pen game is nothing to play with on her latest Mobb Deep “Shook Ones” freestyle., A notable line is when she raps, “Jewelry and the cars ain’t a lot for me. Generational wealth always been a plot for me! Everywhere I go, I Mobb Deep. I ain’t one of them ‘Shook Ones’ that’s gon’ dodge beef.” Last year, on Artist Quarantine with TT Torrez, Latto spoke on growing as an artist and not paying attention to haters. 

 

Brooklyn rap duo Girl Code(Hiii Saditty and ShaBigga)  dropped a new banger and visual called “El Bonics.” The video is fun, and they transform into school teachers that give students a lesson on how to survive NY streets and understand the slang. 

Notable lyric, (Sha Biggaa) “you know hennything is possible, ya use to call em prostitutes, we call em’ treashes and thots, cause they’ll suck a co*k or two.” Another is when Hi Saditty says, “and if I ever say it’s clipped, it’s over or dead, over the bread? Knock off ya kufi, meaning off with ya head.” 

 

This week, Billy B was featured on Hot 97 Who’s Next Instagram highlight for Power Of The Pen for “Danger.” On Sunday (10/3), she’ll be a special guest on DJ Drewski’s The New MVMT, which promotes rising artists on his radio show (11p every Sun.). Billy B is featured on Lola Brooke’s 2021 “Don’t Play Wit’ It,” which caught the attention of DJ Enuff and Megan Ryte’s New At 2 (every Mon.-Fri. at 2p).
