Last night the Global Citizen Festival took place at Central Park’s Great Lawn. What was supposed to be a joyous and fun event, turned into a moment of panic in a matter of minutes.
A few concertgoers were injured as the crowd began to run in different directions because they thought that they heard gunshots. The “gunshot sound” that was heard was actually a metal barricade that hit the ground.
During the midst of chaos, Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin came on stage to ensure to the crowd they were all safe and also called the police chief to verify his story.
Concertgoers took to Twitter to address the situation.
Was truly terrifying and seeing the fear in the eyes of parents running and running with their toddlers over fences, barriers, etc. one good thing is I did see the humanity of my fellow #GlobalCitizen and myself with all the help we provided one another in escaping. https://t.co/e30EqwrLoE
