A$AP Rocky recently reflected on the early days of his relationship with Rihanna, recalling how they first connected during the filming of his iconic “Fashion Killa” music video. While the two are now one of the most adored couples in the industry, Rocky revealed their chemistry was evident even back in 2013, before they became an official couple. Rihanna knew their connection was special long before they made things official.
In a recent segment of Vogue’s “Life In Looks,” Rocky shared his experience of recruiting Rihanna for the video, directed by Virgil Abloh. “I just liked rawness and just anything that felt like authenticity,” he said. “I hit up the flyest chick I knew. I was like, ‘Yo RiRi, what’s good, you want to do this music video with me, I got the perfect song. It’s called ‘Fashion Killa,’ I drop your name in it.’” He laughed, adding, “I ain’t even have to say all that sh*t, ‘Gang I got you.’ She knew she was my boo back then too, I’mma come clean.”
Their undeniable chemistry was clear from the start, and Rihanna knew their connection was special from the beginning. The video was just the start of their bond. The couple has built a life together. They have two children. They have stood by each other through personal and professional challenges. Earlier this year, Rocky faced a trial over assault accusations from his former associate, A$AP Relli. Despite the serious charges, Rocky was found not guilty. The moment of relief was clear. He ran into Rihanna’s arms after hearing the verdict.
Rocky’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, also shared a touching story about Rihanna’s silent support during the trial. Tacopina recalled how Rocky, unaware that Rihanna was in the courtroom, commented, “I smell my girl. It’s weird, man.” Tacopina responded, “Yeah, Rocky, you smell your girl ‘cause she’s sitting right behind you.”
