On this day in 1965, one of the leaders of the civil rights moment Malcolm X passed away after being murdered during a speech in Harlem.

He was addressing a crowd at the Organization of Afro-American Unity at the time before his death. His vision of the Civil Rights Movement was an important different perspective than Dr. Martin Luther King’s vision.

At a young 39-years-old he had passed away tragically after being shot at point blank range as his return from Mecca was to help change his approach to the entire movement.
