Cam’ron Confesses the J. Cole Lawsuit Was Never Meant to Go Anywhere

Last year, rapper Cam’ron launched a lawsuit against J. Cole over their collaboration on “Ready ‘24.” Cam’ron claimed the track had been recorded in 2022, with Cole promising to return the favor through a verse or a podcast appearance. When that commitment went unfulfilled, the Dipset rapper turned to the courts.

Last week, however, the two artists finally addressed the disagreement directly on an episode of Talk With Flee. Sitting down face-to-face, they hashed out the misunderstanding and aired their perspectives. In the follow-up episode released April 1, Cam’ron confirmed the lawsuit had been dropped and reflected on the resolution. In particular, Cam’ron revealed the importance of honest conversation in closing the dispute.

“I’m happy that we kept everything out of court,” he said. “I really wasn’t planning on doing no lawsuit anyway, even though I did it […] At the end of the day, I’m happy it went the way that it went and that we got it resolved.” His words suggested that the legal action had been more about sending a message than pursuing a prolonged battle. Ultimately, Cam’ron’s decision underscored the value of direct communication over legal action.

J. Cole described the experience as both surprising and painful. “I was hurt, almost disappointed,” he told Cam. “Because I got so much respect for you, and I look at you like, I know you are a stand-up person. When the lawsuit come out, I’m like, ‘Come on, Cam.’ And only because in my mind I’m like, ‘Bro, you really could have hit me.’” He continued, “I would prefer [an argument] than the other way, because I was just like, ‘Damn, Cam,’ … so my first thing was disappointment, and my first thought was like, ‘Fuck it. This n***a ain’t even know I was still gonna come to his show.’” Clearly, the relationship with Cam’ron was significant to him.

Cam’ron clarified that escalation was never his intention. “Of course, it was never gonna go nowhere,” he said, “But for me, it was more like, ‘I need to get this n***a attention.’” Their reunion closes a brief, public chapter of tension, leaving the focus on collaboration, mutual respect, and the creative work that originally brought them together. And, Cam’ron’s reconciliation with J. Cole highlights how conflict can be addressed directly.
