A nonpayment lawsuit was filed against Cardi B and Offset over the mansion’s use in Cardi B’s “Like That (Freestyle)” music video.
The song and music video marked Cardi’s return to music and her first solo release from her highly anticipated upcoming album, untitled. Offset directed the video, which was shot in Beverly Hills.
TMZ broke the news on a lawsuit filed by the mansion’s owner alleging that the couple lied about filming plans on the property. Court documents indicate Cardi, Offset, and their team knew they’d have to spend a lot to film at the prestigious Beverly Hills residence, and instead told the owner a client wanted to shoot a TikTok video.
The owner claims he allowed the couple to film on the property for free. According to him, he would have charged them the same rental fee he has charged Logan Paul and Justin Bieber if he knew they were shooting a music video. Damages in excess of $35,000 are sought by the mansion’s owner.
In a tweet to her fans on Tuesday (September 17), Cardi B announced that she will fight the lawsuit. It reads:
‘“We paid those people $10,000 IN CASH to rent the property for a whole 24 hours that same day 6am to 6am the next morning and we went over by ONE hour which we paid overage fees to the realtor for in March. There was cameras all over and both the realtors and the owners was there the ENTIRE time… I got pics and videos of them on set!! Now they wanna finesse us trying to say we told them it was a TikTok video when that was nowhere in the contract and like they didn’t hear the whole song playing and see how long we was shooting….Why would it take us 24 hours to shoot a TikTok? The problem is people wanna find loopholes and get over but IRON YOUR BEST SUIT BITCH I’ll see you in court!!!!”
Cardi B’s forthcoming album is still in development, with a release promised for 2024. Last week, she and Offset welcomed their third child. Her bounce back is already underway and her album is being finished.
