Dave Chappelle with a microphone always results in a classic moment.

“Boy, I’m going to be on TMZ tomorrow … Happy Martin Luther King Day,” said the award-winning comedian on stage in front of a large crowd on Monday, January 15.

A video surfaced on social media Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 16) of Chappelle, 50, performing a blended rendition of the classics “Between The Sheets” by The Isley Brothers and Notorious B.I.G.’s “Big Poppa” with newly honored Oscar award-winning actress Angela Bassett in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Bassett would joke with her comedic friend and encourage him to sing. While Chappelle said he couldn’t sing, he proceeded to huddle with the band and began performing the first verse to “Between The Sheets.” As Bassett and the crowd joined along, Chappelle and the band switched up to performing the first verse to Biggie’s “Big Poppa” which would also be assisted by the sing-a-long crowd.

“To all the ladies in the place with style and grace,” raps Chappelle. “Allow me to lace these lyrical douches in your bushes / Who rock grooves and make moves with all the mamis? / The back of the club, sippin’ Moët is where you’ll find me…”

But this is not the first time Chappelle was captured performing “Big Poppa.” A 2021 video on YouTube shows Dave and fellow comedic legend Bill Murray performing the song together.

From special guests on his classic television show to major pictures about his festival, Chappelle has always expressed his passion for hip-hop.

“Big Poppa,” produced by Chucky Thompson and Diddy, appears on Bigge’s 6x platinum debut album, Ready to Die (1994), on Bad Boy Records. “Between The Sheets” was The Isley Brothers’ lead single from the album of the same title released in 1983. Biggie’s version would go on to be sampled by Jay-Z, Drake, Queen Latifah, and many more.

Biggie Smalls entered the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
