Diddy reveals he’s working on a new album that’s set to drop September 15. The hip-hop mogul announced that this would be his first project in 18 years. Puff shared to Instagram, “I present to you my new album. The Love Album: Off The Grid,” “September 15, 2023 R&B is alive! LOVE. #OTG.” Furthermore, Diddy posted a sneak peak of the album’s feature list, which includes 21 Savage, The Weeknd, Mary J. Blige, Busta Rhymes, Justin Bieber, Babyface, and many more big names.
Prior to this announcement, Puff has already dropped three singles from the album, which include “Sex in the Porshe” with PARTYNEXTDOOR, “Gotta Move On” featuring Bryson Tiller, and “Act Bad” with City Girls and Fabolous. Notably, this project will be released under his new label, Love Records, which is dedicated specifically to R&B. His goal with this new label is to focus on “creating timeless R&B music with the next generation of artists and producers. Motown is the perfect partner for my album and I’m excited to add to its legacy.”
In a Vanity Fair interview, he discussed his intent behind his “Love” era: “[The ‘Love’ era is about] my people taking time to feel like it’s all right to love.” “Take time to huddle up your tribe, take time to communicate and know your power. Take time to heal. [Taking care of] yourself without feeling like, oh, you’re going to be labeled a racist now because you talk about taking care of yourself.” “I feel like R&B was abandoned and it’s a part of our African-American culture. And I’m not signing any artists. Because if you know better, you do better. I’m doing 50–50 partnerships with pure transparency. That’s the thing. [The new label is so that] we can own the genre.” Puff concluded with, “We don’t own Hip Hop right now. We have a chance to — and I’m going to make sure that we own R&B.”
