The wins keep coming in for Doechii.
After dropping her acclaimed mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, Doechii got to perform her hit song “Denial is a River” with Issa Rae.
Taking place on Genius’ Open Mic series, the Insecure creator showed off her rap skills standing alongside one of the breakout stars of rap.
“Why don’t you just tell me what’s been goin’ on? Rae said.
Andrés Tardio, producer of Genius, shared how the platform pulled off the dream collaboration.
“I had this crazy idea while listening to Doechii’s ‘Denial is a River’ one day,” he wrote.“What if Issa Rae played the role of Doechii’s therapist in a special live rendition of the song? That idea is now real!”
“Doechii and Issa showed up and made magic with their incredible talent and star power. Just undeniable greatness,” the post continued. “So many great minds came together to bring this to life in such a dope way. Watch the credits for some of those names but also for a special bonus moment too!”
2024 has been an incredible one for Doechii. In a recent interview, Doechii said revealed that fans can expect her LP to be released next year
“All I can think about is this album. I’m just looking forward to making more hits, making more music, and achieving more of my goals,” she said. “That’s it.”
Along with the rest of her accolades, Doechii is nominated in several categories at the 2025 Grammys. She’s up for Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album at the upcoming Grammys.
“It just shows how conceptual the music really was,” she said. “And for such a conceptual project to be a mixtape makes me very affirmed — that my ideas are great And that people resonate with the music.”
