Drake is once again showing loyalty to Tory Lanez, this time by weighing in on social media. On Sunday, August 24th, the rapper found himself in the comments section of a resurfaced Genius interview clip from 2019. The video showed Lanez reciting lines from Lil Wayne’s Dedication 2 track “Cannon” while speaking with journalist Rob Markman. Drake decided to poke fun at the moment, writing, “Of course this good Markman couldn’t finish the bar… Free Tory.”

Markman quickly responded on X with a sharp comment that referenced Drake’s ongoing legal fight with Universal Music Group. “I could call him names too But you know he love to sue,” he said, turning the attention back on Drake.

This is not the first time Drake has gone after Markman publicly. In 2019, he appeared in Joe Budden’s Instagram Live chat and pushed Budden to play his stash of diss records. At the time, he wanted to hear Pusha T’s “The Story of Adidon” and taunted, “Yo play your diss songs for me right now I want to see if they ring off. Play story of adidon right now and see if it rings off I promise the only person that’s gonna know the words is Rob Markman.”

Lanez is currently serving a 10 year prison sentence after being convicted in connection with the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. The Canadian artist was found guilty on three felony charges in December 2022 and officially sentenced in August 2023. Earlier this year, he was hospitalized following a stabbing incident behind bars.
