Drake‘s ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar took another turn this week, but his latest antics have only added fuel to the fire. The Toronto rapper faced fresh backlash after making light of Kendrick’s lyrics during a Twitch livestream, a move critics called petty and misguided.
On Tuesday (December 3), Drake joined popular Twitch streamer LosPollosTV’s chat, where the conversation veered into complaints about how streaming platforms allegedly prioritize Kendrick’s chart-topping single “Squabble Up” over Drake’s Certified Lover Boy. Seizing the moment, Drake commented, “We need a donut emoji in the chat,” mocking a fan-favorite line from Kendrick’s latest album GNX. He went further, parodying the viral “Mustaaard!” line from Kendrick’s “TV Off” with “CUSTAAAARRRRRD.”
The trolling attempt, however, backfired. Fans on social media quickly ridiculed Drake, branding him immature and out of touch. “Every day Drake shows us just how corny he is,” one critic wrote, while another commented, “He’s legit acting like a manchild.” Many lamented that Drake, once praised for his sharp lyrical responses, is now resorting to jabs on social media. “Same guy who called others ‘Twitter fingers’ is here yapping online instead of responding on a track,” one fan observed.
This isn’t the first time Drake has taken a non-musical swing at Kendrick during their ongoing rivalry. Last month, while appearing on Canadian streamer xQc’s Kick channel, Drake dismissed the allegations from Kendrick’s diss tracks as baseless. “I’m here—mind, body, and soul fully intact. You need facts to take me out; fairytales won’t do it,” he declared, referencing the accusations Kendrick raised on “Not Like Us.”
But the feud escalated further when Drake filed legal actions against Universal Music Group (UMG), the parent company of his label Republic and Kendrick’s longtime home, Interscope. In two pre-action legal petitions, Drake accused UMG of using streaming bots and payola to inflate the success of Kendrick’s diss track, claiming it caused him significant economic harm. He also alleged defamation, citing the song’s allegations of misconduct.
UMG has denied any wrongdoing, dismissing the claims as baseless. Kendrick, notably absent from the legal filings, has yet to comment. While it’s unclear if Drake intends to follow through with a lawsuit, his legal maneuvers have raised questions about the extent of the rivalry and whether it risks overshadowing both artists’ music.
For now, fans continue to debate whether Drake’s recent moves reflect calculated strategy or a rare misstep in an otherwise carefully curated image. Either way, the battle between two of hip-hop’s biggest stars shows no signs of cooling.
