For those who have not watched the show, here’s a quick synopsis of Queen Of The South:

The show is about While living in the barrio of Jalisco, Mexico, poor Teresa Mendoza falls in love with a member of a successful drug cartel, hoping the love will help her rise above the hopelessness she feels in her life. When it does not happen, she is forced to flee the country after her boyfriend is murdered. She seeks refuge in America, where she teams up with an unlikely person from her past to take down the leader of the drug ring that is after her. Teresa ends up starting her own drug empire, becoming one of the world’s wealthiest women in the process. With her success, she discovers that money doesn’t fix all of her problems, and she can only depend on herself if she wants to stay one step ahead of others and stay alive.

Remy will be playing a character named Vee, a member of Devon Finch, a neighborhood drug dealer’s entourage. Can’t wait to see her!

However, this is not the first time a rapper has gone onto television. Just in case you think rappers have no business acting, here are eight other times it has happened:

50 Cent and Power. Enough said. But Fif went beyond just acting; he created the show, is producing it and directing the Season 6 premiere episode.  He also has other TV projects in the works including the highly anticipated BMF also coming come to the STARZ network.

Queen Latifah played Khadijah James on Living Single for many years and earned the hearts of fans worldwide. We obviously know how successful Latifah is in both TV and film, but her most significant accomplishment has got to be writing the theme song to this show!

Eve, the first lady of Ruff Ryders had her own UPN sitcom by the same name for three years.

Ice-T’s controversial song “Cop Killer” put him in the public eye but his role as NYPD Detective/Sergeant Odafin Tutuola on the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has made him a veteran on TV. The show has been running for 18 years and counting.

While we wait for Kid Cudi to drop a new album, you can catch the G.O.O.D Music rapper on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Scorpion or by watching re-runs of HBO’s How To Make It In America where he played Domingo Dean.

Method Man has been acting for a long time now, who can forget How High. However, his transition to TV has been a prosperous one having landed roles in HBO’s The Wire, CSI and more recently, HBO’s The Deuce.

Before NCIS: Los Angeles, LL Cool J had a hit show, In The House, where he starred as himself living with a zany family.

Moving from one zany family to another, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. This show undoubtedly made Will Smith a bonafide star. The actor/rapper was already making noise in the music world with songs like “Summertime” and “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” before taking on his role as the charismatic nephew from Philly. However, it was the Fresh Prince that would launch his claim to fame.
