In May 2023, Fetty Wap received a six-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to drug charges. Reports indicate that the New Jersey rapper was involved in a case where he displayed a firearm and made threats during a FaceTime call.

Additionally, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute a significant amount of cocaine. Prosecutors urged the judge to impose a lengthy sentence, emphasizing that Wap’s fame had been used to romanticize the drug trade, particularly following the success of his hit song “Trap Queen” in 2015.

Breon Peace, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District, emphasized the need to deter young people from pursuing drug-related activities by imposing substantial prison terms.

“Young people who admire the defendant and are considering selling drugs need to be sent a message that selling drugs is not a glamorous lifestyle and, if they participate in that trade, they will receive lengthy prison sentences,” Peace wrote at the time.
