Former The Voice Nigeria contestant Ifunanya Nwangene, 26, has died after being bitten by a snake while she slept in her home, according to multiple news reports.
According to reports, Nwangene, also known professionally as Nanyah, appeared on Season 3 of the Nigerian edition of the competition show, where during her audition she stood out with her powerful rendition of Rihanna’s “Take a Bow”.
Nwangene was reportedly bitten by a cobra snake while asleep in her Abuja apartment on Jan. 31, 2026. The bite woke her, and she initially sought treatment at a nearby clinic that did not have antivenom. She was later transferred to a hospital in the city for further care, but despite efforts, including attempts to secure necessary antivenom, she succumbed to complications from the bite and passed away.
Video footage circulating on social media showed two snakes being removed from her home after the incident.
Originally from Enugu, Nwangene was also an architect and performed at weddings, festivals, and events outside her work on The Voice Nigeria. Prior to her untimely death, she had been planning her first solo concert and had been active in recording music and collaborating with other Nigerian artists.
