Freddie Lee Trone, convicted of murdering rapper PnB Rock at a Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in 2022, has been sentenced to 31 years to life in prison. The 42-year-old was found guilty last month on charges of felony murder, robbery, and conspiracy in connection with the fatal shooting of PnB Rock, whose real name was Rakim Allen. Trone was accused of orchestrating the robbery and murder, sending his 17-year-old son into the South Los Angeles restaurant to rob the rapper.
On September 12, 2022, while PnB Rock was dining with his girlfriend, Trone’s son approached the rapper, demanding his expensive jewelry, which was valued at about half a million dollars. When PnB Rock refused, the teenager shot him once in the chest and twice in the back before fleeing the scene with the jewelry. The younger Trone, now 19, faces first-degree murder charges and remains in juvenile court. He is undergoing treatment to determine if he is mentally competent to stand trial.
In addition to murder, Freddie Trone was also convicted of robbery and conspiracy, alongside co-defendant Tremont Jones. Jones, however, was found guilty only of robbery and conspiracy, not murder, and received a 12-year prison sentence. A third individual involved, Shauntrel Trone, pleaded no contest to accessory after the fact and will be sentenced in January 2025.
The jury deliberated for less than four hours before reaching their verdict. According to prosecutors, Freddie Trone acted as the getaway driver while his son carried out the robbery and murder. With this conviction, Trone was sentenced to life in prison and is expected to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
