After being slapped with a lawsuit last August, French Montana and his legal team finally settled with the plaintiff, Skylar Gudasz. According to court documents obtained by Rolling Stone, the case has been officially dismissed. That said, no settlement details have been shared with the public. As it stands, both parties will be responsible for their own attorney’s fees. In August 2023, Gudasz accused French and producer Harry Fraud of sampling her 2020 track, “Femme Fatal,” without permission.
The singer alleges while in talks to secure licensing for the song, French’s “Blue Chills” track had already been released. Along with French Montana and Fraud, Gudasz sued several other entities tied to the song, including Sony Music. In the original suit, the songwriter says after reaching out to French and his team regarding the song’s release, she received this message: “Oh jeez… reaching out to Adam Zia,” from DMG Clearances. DMG is a company that specializes in securing music licenses for various purposes.
French Montana Makes History With ‘Unforgettable’
Gudasz claims while DMG made several efforts to secure a final agreement between both parties, nothing ever materialized. On a more positive note, earlier this year French Montana’s “Unforgettable” featuring Swae Lee is officially the most streamed song to ever come out of New York. Following the announcement, the rapper hopped on Instagram to share his excitement. “Eid came early ! Adding a couple of more plaques to the collection.”
He continues: “First slide is the most streamed record that ever came out of New York might be 13x by now @swaelee. The second slide is the record that took the longest to go gold for me, lol. It took ten years but it’s the record that got me signed !” French adds, “I say that to say this, it don’t matter how long it takes you to win as long as u win… keep pushing. Thank u to anybody that ever supported us . LOVE YOUR SOUL.”
