Immigration and Customs Enforcement is preparing to send agents to Super Bowl LX in 2026, where Bad Bunny will headline the halftime show. The agency confirmed the plan to TMZ after remarks from Corey Lewandowski, an adviser connected to the Trump administration.
Lewandowski addressed the issue during an appearance on “The Benny Show.” He insisted the government would not allow large gatherings, even a sporting event of this scale, to serve as protection for those without legal status. “There is nowhere that you can provide safe haven to people in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else,” he said.
The political strategist, who played a role in both Trump’s 2016 and 2024 campaigns, also voiced his anger at the NFL for inviting Bad Bunny. He described the halftime selection as “shameful” and argued that many other performers could have filled the slot. He later added, “We will find you. We will apprehend you. We will put you in a detention facility, and we will deport you. So know that that is a very real situation under this administration, which is completely contrary to what how it used to be.”
ICE echoed Lewandowski’s position in a statement, saying, “There is no safe haven for violent criminal illegal aliens in the United States.” While officials have not publicly confirmed details, it is believed that agents will be stationed in Santa Clara throughout the week of Super Bowl festivities, not only during the game itself.
The discussion comes after Bad Bunny previously explained that he avoids performing in the U.S. because he does not want ICE to harass immigrant communities. Despite the pushback, the three-time Grammy winner welcomed the opportunity to take the stage. “What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown … this is for my people, my culture and our history,” he said.
