Ja Rule is weighing in on LiAngelo Ball’s headline-making divorce, offering words of reassurance rather than concern.
The veteran rapper, who built his career at Def Jam alongside the late Irv Gotti through their Murder Inc. dynasty, told TMZ Hip Hop he isn’t worried about the younger artist’s ability to bounce back. In his view, heartbreak is hardly a career-ending event in hip-hop—especially for a rapper with options.
Ball filed for divorce from Rashida Nicole just days after she revealed her pregnancy, a move that surprised fans and ignited speculation across social media. The split came as Ball, 25, continues to pursue a rap career, occasionally releasing tracks centered on marijuana, fashion, and luxury. But Ja Rule doesn’t see the turmoil as a setback.
“Rappers have options,” Ja said. “There’s always music, money, and attention—energy can be channeled into something productive.”
He also used the moment to reflect on marriage in today’s industry landscape. Having remained married to Aisha Atkins for 24 years, Ja Rule is one of the rare hip-hop figures with decades of stability at home. He credits that to mutual understanding—and sound legal advice. “Marriage can be beautiful,” he said, “but a prenup isn’t negativity, it’s preparation.”
While Ja Rule expressed support for Ball, he also suggested that personal challenges could push artists creatively. In a world where vulnerability and reinvention drive engagement, a public breakup can become fuel rather than fire.
For those looking to toast or process the moment, Ja also has a bottle ready. He recently partnered with Sandy Sandiford, Herb Rice, and Kelvin Barton to launch Amber & Opal, a premium whiskey brand that blends luxury with soul. The company leans into moments of personal triumph and emotional reflection—something Ball may relate to as he navigates the fallout.
In the end, Ja Rule doesn’t see this divorce as defining. With the right focus, he believes Ball can turn pain into progress. The industry, after all, rewards the ones who keep going.
