Back in 2022, Reshonda Landfair testified as a Jane Doe in R.Kelly’s 2022 federal trial. Now, four years later, Landfair is ready to tell her side of the story.
“I really wanted to live in my true skin and my true self. My true self today is Reshona Landfair,” she tells CBS Mornings. In her memoir, Who’s Watching Shorty?: Reclaiming Myself from the Shame of R. Kelly’s Abuse, Landfair details her complicated relationship with R. Kelly. During the conversation, Landfair recalls the moment R.Kelly told her that the infamous sextape of the two had begun to be sold.
Landfair was only a minor at the time of the tape’s release. “I was empty. I was very hollow inside. I was very confused,” she said. Lanfair was asked why she didn’t report the initial abuse or implicate R.Kelly in his 2002 and 2008 trials. She calls it one of her “biggest regrets,” noting that she’d been “trained and groomed” from the age of 13.
“I started believing the lies that I was telling”
“I started believing the lies that I was telling,” Landfair says.
She added, “It was very foggy and unclear on what I really felt versus what was right or what was wrong. Even in moments when I despised Robert, I still lied for him.” R. Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, is currently serving a 30-year sentence in federal prison for racketeering and sex trafficking. Despite dozens of allegations of sexual abuse going back to 1991, the disgraced singer has maintained support from his loyal fans.
In other news, R.Kelly’s release date has finally been revealed. According to recent reports, citing CBS News and later amplified by RapTV, December 21 is listed as the projected release date tied to a remaining 19 years. At 59, the likelihood of a shortened sentence appears increasingly remote.
