With the premiere of the Michael film only weeks away, one might think the Jackson clan would be more excited than ever. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth, at least for Janet Jackson, a source tells TMZ. Apparently, the R&B-pop icon and her brother Jermaine got into a screaming match over the phone after the family got together for a screening of the film in Los Angeles last week. According to the outlet, Janet was very critical of the film, whereas Jermaine loudly applauded it. It should be noted that Jermaine’s son, Jaafar, is portraying Michael in the upcoming film.
Seemingly, Janet is the only detractor of the film. Page Six reported that even the family’s matriarch, Katherine Jackson, was a fan of the project. The source claims Janet’s issues with the film stem from jealousy. “Janet’s always been insanely jealous of Michael, and her career is in the toilet,” they said. While the estate produced the film, Janet reportedly had no involvement, nor was she part of production, despite being allegedly offered to come aboard. A rep for Janet Jackson’s team has not yet offered a comment regarding the situation.

‘Michael’ Film Set To Release April 2025
Per the film’s synopsis, Michael is “the story of pop superstar Michael Jackson — from his extraordinary early days in the Jackson 5 to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fuels a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world.” The film is set to hit theaters on April 18. Back in 2022, Janet Jackson released her own documentary series, Janet Jackson. The project was executive produced by Janet and her brother, Randy Jackson, for Lifetime and A&E. The series offered an unfiltered look at the singer’s life and career.
The docuseries also touched on the at the time very controversial wardrobe malfunction — commonly referred to as “Nipple Gate” —during her 2004 Super Bowl performance with Justin Timberlake. While Timberlake was able to avoid criticism, Janet was subsequently blackballed by the music industry for the incident. Around the time of the series’ release, Timberlake offered an apology to Jackson, as well as Britney Spears.
