Donald Trump will have to pay the consequences of his actions.
As reported on Reuters, a jury found that former President Donald Trump, 76, sexually abused and magazine writer, E. Jean Carroll, 79, in the 1990’s. The jury also says Trump defamed her by calling her a “liar.”
The jury awarded Carroll $5 million in compensatory and punitive damages. Trump’s legal team plans on appealing the case, which will delay Carroll from getting compensated. The report says, “Trump will not have to pay so long as the case is on appeal.”
Carroll accused the MAGA leader of raping her in in a Bergdorf Goodman department store dressing room in Manhattan in either 1995 or 1996. The article reports Trump “harmed her reputation by writing in an October 2022 post on his Truth Social platform that her claims were a ‘complete con job.’”
The jury didn’t establish that Trump raped her, but found that there was some sexual abuse. Jury consisted of six men and three women and they were required to reach a unanimous verdict. They deliberated for three hours.
Trump was absent during the trial. He reacted to the verdict on his Truth Social Platform and said the ruling is a “disgrace.” He also claims he doesn’t know who the woman is.
The 45th President is campaigning to retake the White House in 2024.
