Juvenile has received a special honor in New Orleans to mark the 25th anniversary of his hit song “Back That Azz Up” and the start of his upcoming tour. Mayor LaToya Cantrell declared today, Tuesday, June 11th, as “Back That Azz Up Day” in the city to celebrate the rapper’s iconic track.
In an Instagram video, Juvenile proudly showed off his proclamation, saying, “Check me out, man. The mayor done made it official. On this day 25 years ago I released a song called ‘Back That Azz Up.’ Today is officially ‘Back That Azz Up Day. I need everybody to celebrate today by backing that azz up […] Y’all come lay it down with your boy, Juvie.”
Mannie Fresh, the producer of “Back That Azz Up,” also expressed gratitude for the recognition, calling the song “THE GREATEST LOVE SONG EVER WRITTEN” and thanking Mayor Cantrell and the city of New Orleans.
Reflecting on the song’s impact, Mannie Fresh explained, “‘Back That Azz Up’ was the introduction to bounce music to the world. A lot of people don’t know, it was met with, ‘Nah, maybe the world not ready for it.’ Fast forward, it’s stood the test of time.”
Juvenile also revealed the full schedule for his “Back That Azz Up” 25th-anniversary tour, featuring 65 dates across North America. Starting from July 7 in New Orleans and wrapping up on December 31st in his hometown, the tour will hit major cities including San Francisco, New York, Washington, D.C., Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, and Toronto.
