Kelly Rowland, actress, recording artist, and Beyonce Destiny’s Child group member, speaks highly of Jay-Z on Tuesday evening (Feb. 6) after he commented on Beyonce’s Grammy’s Album of the Year snub during his acceptance speech at this year’s Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 4).

“Shawn Carter is one of the greatest men I know and his words ring so loud to me,” Rowland told Entertainment Tonight at the red carpet premiere of Bob Marley: One Love in Los Angeles. “I couldn’t be more proud of him. I’m just really happy for a lot of things that he said. I think that he made a lot of artists feel very seen and very heard in those minutes that he took on stage.”

Jay-Z spoke to the music industry inside the Crypto.com Arena about the awards needing to do better with honoring artists for their incredible bodies of work. He shared that his wife has the most Grammy awards but never won Album of the Year. With his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, by his side, said the following:

“Obviously it’s subjective because, you know, it’s music and it’s opinion-based, but some things… I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year! So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys, never won Album of the Year. That doesn’t work. We want y’all to get it right. We love y’all, we love y’all, we just want y’all to get it right. At least get it close to right.”

Kelly Rowland added to Jay-Z’s acknowledgment of Beyonce at the Grammys by crediting her groupmate’s accolades as an icon and her albums, which are heavily praised. On Beyonce’s star power, she said:

“I feel like she is an icon… and that’s for a reason – it’s because she starts trends,” she said. “She is innovative, her thoughts are big and bright and she just jumps for them and does it. I think that her albums are a reflection of that, and it should be really celebrated in that way. I’m not saying that because it’s my sister, I’m saying it because it’s the truth. I’ve seen the blood, sweat and tears that she puts into these projects, and her thoughts and her heart and her passion and her soul.”

Kelly Rowland is set to star in the upcoming Tyler Perry film Mea Culpa, with Trevante Rhodes, coming to Netflix on February 23.
