Kendrick Lamar wants his Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show to be more than just a spectacle—he wants it to tell a story.

The 22-time Grammy winner sat down with Hot 97 and Apple Music’s Ebro Darden and Nadeska Alexis on Thursday (Feb. 6) to discuss what fans can expect from his highly anticipated performance, including a few surprises.

“I’ve always been open about storytelling in my music,” Lamar said. “It’s something I’m passionate about bringing to every stage, whether it’s a world tour or a small club show.”

The Compton rapper hinted that his set will be infused with the spirit of Los Angeles. “I want to bring that LA energy to New Orleans for the world to see,” he said. “I want it to radiate through the televisions and the crowd in the stadium.”

As for special guests, the only confirmed name so far is SZA. Lamar admitted he hasn’t even had a chance to connect with her about the show.

“Everything’s been moving fast,” he said. “She’s always had it, and I’m just honored to be next to her talent.”

With Lamar at the helm, fans can expect more than just a performance. They’re in for a moment that blends music, culture, and a story only he can tell.
