Kid Capri has opened up about his dissatisfaction with not being compensated for his voice being used in the Martin show’s opening theme. During a recent interview on Bag Fuel, the legendary DJ shared that his voice was sampled from Def Comedy Jam without his permission. He explained, “They took my voice from Def Comedy Jam, sampled it, put it on the Martin show… Never got no permission from me, never asked for my rights, nothing.”

While he didn’t initially pursue legal action, Capri’s frustration grew after Martin Lawrence and Tisha Campbell claimed the voice wasn’t his and tried to credit someone else. Despite the show’s widespread success, Capri never demanded payment, as it wasn’t just about money for him. “If it was a money thing for me, I would’ve been like, ‘Yo, where’s my bread?’ I ain’t never did that,” he added.

In another instance, Capri called out rapper Travis Scott for his behavior towards a young fan last year. The fan, holding out his phone and asking Scott for a picture, was pushed away by the rapper, who said, “Don’t touch me.” Capri was deeply disturbed by the interaction and took to social media to address the situation. “Ayo, Travis Scott, when did we start being disrespectful to kids, bruh?” he questioned.

He reminded Scott of the humility he should show to fans, especially after the tragic 2021 Astroworld incident. “Celebs get where they get and then they forget,” Capri said. “I would try to be as humble as possible.” He stressed that celebrities should remember where they came from and how important their fans are, particularly young ones who look up to them as role models. Travis Scott has not responded to Capri’s comments.
