LaVar Ball,  the father of Hornets guard LaMelo Ball, Bulls guard Lonzo Ball, and former NBA player LiAngelo Ball, had his right foot amputated.

Ball recently underwent the procedure following suffering a “serious medical issue,” TMZ Sports reported on Wednesday (February 19).

“We’re told the Ball family patriarch underwent a recent procedure to have his right foot removed … but despite it all, he is in great spirits and doing well,” the statement from the outlet read,

Ball, 57, known for his abrasive style and shrewd marketing of his children, managed to raise a successful family with his wife Tina.

After playing one year at UCLA, Lonzo was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the second overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2018. In 2019, Lonzo, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and four number-one picks were traded for Anthony Davis. Eventually, he was traded to the Chicago Bulls, his current team.

Following a few stints in the league with the Detroit Pistons and the Charlotte Hornets  LiAngelo has found success as an up-and-coming rapper. Going by the moniker “Gelo” his viral hit “Tweaker,” led him LiAngelo to sign a record deal with Def Jam and Universal Music Group for a guaranteed $ 8 million – with the deal potentially rising to $13 Million back in January.

LaMelo was selected by the Hornets with the third overall pick of the 2020 NBA draft. Ball was voted the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2021 and named an NBA All-Star the following season in 2022. This season, he’s averaging 27.3 points.

Currently, LaVar is the CEO of the Big Baller Brand. Previously, he was a practice squad member of both the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers, but never played in an NFL game.

We hope for a speedy recovery for LaVar Ball.
