Mariah Carey is stepping into a new phase of her legendary career.
The five-time Grammy winner has signed a multi-album deal with Gamma, the independent music company launched by Larry Jackson. The move marks her return to the studio and her first full-length release in nearly a decade.
At 56, Carey unveiled the era with “Type Dangerous,” a sultry single that highlights her signature vocal finesse and confident lyricism. The track introduces her 16th studio album and reflects a renewed sense of creative freedom.
In a recent Forbes interview, Carey praised Gamma’s mission. “What Larry is building at Gamma is beyond music. It’s a cultural shift,” she said. “This chapter is about owning my story and creating freely.” She joins a roster that includes Usher and Snoop Dogg.
Though details remain scarce, Mariah Carey confirmed longtime collaborator L.A. Reid will serve as executive producer. Their past work includes her 2005 comeback album The Emancipation of Mimi, which sold over 10 million copies worldwide and restored her chart dominance.
Carey’s last album, Caution, dropped in 2018 and received critical acclaim for its production and vocal maturity. The upcoming project aims to build on that success while diving deeper into her growth as an artist.
Gamma, founded in 2023, quickly gained attention by supporting veteran artists through ownership-driven deals and creative autonomy. Carey’s deal reflects a broader shift in music, where legacy artists reclaim control and redefine relevance on their terms.
With “Type Dangerous” as its lead, Mariah Carey’s next act is already underway. The release date remains unknown, but anticipation is building.
After three decades in the spotlight and 19 No. 1 hits, Mariah Carey remains a force—bold, evolving, and fully in command of her sound.
