Mark Curry calls Diddy’s recent move to give Bad Boy artists back their publishing, “disrespectful.”
Earlier this week, TMZ reported Puff Daddy was offered “nine figures” for the catalogs, but decided to give the publishing rights back to the artists. Mark, who appeared on the 2001 classic hit, “Bad Boys For Life,” with Diddy and Black Rob, spoke out against his former boss.
In a lengthy Instagram video, Mark revealed he got his publishing back a while ago, but didn’t specify when. He said he was the first artist to know that Diddy would be giving his artists back their catalogs.
Mark compared the situation to Diddy giving him back his girlfriend 10 years after Diddy had four kids with her. In addition, he called the move a means for Diddy to “stay relevant.”
He also said since the publishing wasn’t worth what it was 10/20 years ago, he asked Diddy, instead of giving it back, he should pay him $1-2 million, but Diddy declined.
The former Bad Boy artist also called Diddy out for confessing that everything he owned belonged to someone else. In the video, he said, “he’s just giving back what he shouldn’t have had in the first place.”
Mark also explained that he didn’t want the publishing back because it’s worthless now and only makes roughly $300-$700 per year from them. Mark explained that since the music is older, people aren’t checking for it like they used to.
Artists like Mase, Faith Evans, The Lox, 112, and the estate of The Notorious B.I.G. signed agreements to receive their publishing rights. Forbes reported that the process to give back their publishing rights started in May 2021.
