Marvin Jones III is stepping deeper into the Marvel universe, landing the role of Tombstone in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The announcement comes as production was temporarily halted after Tom Holland suffered a concussion on set last week. Filming is set to resume on September 29, keeping the film on track for its release on July 31, 2026.
For Jones, this move represents another major step in a career built on playing powerful figures. He’s no stranger to Tombstone, having voiced the menacing crime boss in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won an Oscar, and in the forthcoming Beyond the Spider-Verse. Now, he’ll bring the character into live action for the first time.
Tombstone, created in 1988 by Gerry Conway and Alex Saviuk, is one of Marvel’s grittiest villains. Known as Lonnie Lincoln, he’s an albino crime lord with sharpened teeth and nearly unbreakable skin. His constant clashes with Spider-Man have made him a recurring threat in the comics, and his introduction to the live-action franchise signals darker challenges for Holland’s Peter Parker.
Marvin Jones III (Krondon) Joins Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Jones’ casting adds another layer of anticipation to a film already stacked with talent. Zendaya will return as MJ, and Mark Ruffalo is expected back as the Hulk.
Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas have also joined the lineup, though their roles remain under wraps. Behind the camera, Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi, leads the project with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and producer Amy Pascal steering its release.
The Bronx-born actor has steadily built a reputation for commanding performances. He gained wide recognition as Tobias Whale on The CW’s Black Lightning and recently starred opposite Kerry Washington in Joe Carnahan’s action thriller Shadow Force.
His résumé stretches across television, with appearances in All American: Homecoming, The Equalizer, and Halo. He’ll soon headline Amazon’s Criminal alongside Emilia Clarke and Adria Arjona, as well as Jonás Cuarón’s indie project Gringo Champion.
For Jones, Tombstone marks both a return and a reinvention, bringing a familiar character to life in a new dimension. With his presence, Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks set to deliver a grittier and more intense chapter in Marvel.
