R&B singer Ne-Yo recently opened up about a memorable — and awkward — studio session with fellow artist Keyshia Cole that didn’t go as planned.
During a recent interview on the We Sound Crazy podcast, Ne-Yo recounted the tense encounter that ended with Cole abruptly leaving the studio.
According to Ne-Yo, the mood was off from the start. “She came in with an energy,” he said, noting that she seemed upset the moment she walked in. “I’m sitting there trying to figure out what I did to deserve this.” Despite the awkward atmosphere, he attempted to push forward with the session.
After sitting in silence for nearly half an hour, Ne-Yo decided to play a track in hopes of breaking the ice. However, Cole’s reaction was less than enthusiastic. “That’s cool. Hold on,” she reportedly said — and then walked out of the session, never to return.
Though the encounter was uncomfortable, Ne-Yo made it clear there’s no lingering tension between them. In fact, the two later collaborated on DJ Khaled’s 2011 track “Legendary,” proving that creative differences in one moment don’t necessarily spell the end of a working relationship.
