On August 2, 2025, producer The Alchemist ignited excitement across hip-hop with a single post on X: “The new Mobb Deep album is done. Produced entirely by Havoc & The Alchemist.”
The announcement marks the group’s first official release since 2014’s The Infamous Mobb Deep and the first since Prodigy’s death in 2017.
The project arrives as part of Mass Appeal’s Legend Has It… series, a 2025 campaign curated by Nas that highlights pivotal artists with new music and archival collections. Mobb Deep’s upcoming album stands as a centerpiece alongside releases from Raekwon, De La Soul, Slick Rick, and a Nas–DJ Premier collaboration.
Mobb Deep, the influential Queensbridge duo formed by Havoc and Prodigy, helped define East Coast rap’s cold, introspective sound in the mid-’90s. Their 1995 album The Infamous is widely considered a genre cornerstone, built on Havoc’s minimalist production and Prodigy’s uncompromising lyricism.
Now, with unreleased vocals from Prodigy’s archive and Havoc at the helm, the new album aims to preserve the group’s identity while offering fresh perspective. Prodigy’s daughter, Santana Fox, contributed to the creative process, ensuring the project honors his legacy while pushing the story forward.
Although the album has no release date yet, anticipation is rising. The Alchemist, a longtime Mobb Deep collaborator, also produced Prodigy’s solo works Return of the Mac and Albert Einstein. His presence ensures the project remains faithful to the group’s original tone—gritty, sparse, and deeply lyrical.
The Mobb Deep project follows a prolific stretch for The Alchemist in 2025, including Life Is Beautiful with 2 Chainz and Larry June, Alfredo 2 with Freddie Gibbs, and the upcoming Abi & Alan with Erykah Badu.
This new Mobb Deep album isn’t just a posthumous release. It’s a revival of sound, spirit, and storytelling—raw, intentional, and steeped in history.
