Trying to crossover into another genre can be hard especially if you are a hip hop artist. There are things that you have to worry about like selling a great amount records, appealing to your fans and more. For these hip-hop artists crossing over seems to come with ease.
Jay Z:
In 2004, Jay Z surprised fans when he teamed up with Rock group Linkin Park and released “Collision Course”. The most notable song on that album was “Numb/Encore”, that won them a Grammy.
Nicki Minaj:
There’s no question that Nicki Minaj has reached major success throughout her career. She has worked with a number of producers and artists from different genres such as Calvin Harris, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Jessie J, and more.
Drake:
Before he was known as Drake, he known as Aubrey Graham, the actor from DeGrassi. Once he bursts onto the music scene, Drake quickly conquered and crossover in between different genres. He has collabed with Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Former Aventura front man, Romeo Santos.
Snoop Dogg:
This rap living legend has no problem getting in where he fits in. Snoop Dogg has been dominating in his career for more that 20 years and he has seen crossover success like no other. Transitioning from rap, to reggae, and even gospel where his album reached number 1 on the gospel charts, Snoop Dogg has no problem crossing over successfully.
Run-DMC
Before all of the rappers listed above, there was a group who’ve paved the way. Run-DMC reached a new height when they joined Rock group Aerosmith on their already released single “Walk this Way”, giving it a new meaning to what crossover success is.
