Joycelyn Savage, the longtime partner and the “fiancée” of R&B singer R. Kelly, has publicly addressed growing concerns surrounding her well-being, asserting that she is not a victim and remains in full control of her life.
In a recently released video statement, Savage responded to claims made by her parents, Timothy and Jonjelyn Savage. Despite their ongoing efforts to reconnect, Joycelyn reaffirmed her commitment to Kelly, who is currently serving a 30-year federal sentence for sex trafficking and racketeering.
“I am not brainwashed. I am not a slave. I am not being held against my will,” Savage said in the video, pushing back on public narratives and media portrayals of her as a victim. “I’ve been with Robert for ten years, and we’ve been engaged for three. We speak every weekend. I love him, and I am looking forward to building our life together.”
Savage, 29, emphasized that she has access to her own phone and chooses not to speak with her parents due to what she described as a “toxic relationship.” She pleaded with the public to stop believing “lies” and to support Kelly’s legal fight for justice.
Her family, however, remains deeply concerned. In interviews and public statements, the Savages have repeatedly questioned the authenticity of their daughter’s statements and expressed doubt that she is acting independently. They have cited limited and highly controlled communication since 2019 and maintain that Joycelyn is still under Kelly’s psychological and emotional influence.
“Until we can have a real, private conversation with our daughter—unfiltered and unscripted—we can’t accept that everything is okay,” her father, Timothy Savage, recently stated. The family has also been vocal in opposing Kelly’s requests for clemency, citing unresolved concerns over Joycelyn’s condition and freedom.
Kelly, 58, remains incarcerated following his 2022 conviction on multiple federal charges. He was recently hospitalized amid reports of a potential overdose involving prescription medication administered in prison. His legal team has since filed motions requesting early release or a pardon, citing mistreatment and ongoing health concerns.
