The Recording Academy has confirmed that the 67th annual Grammy Awards will proceed as scheduled on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. After much deliberation, the decision was announced on January 13th by Recording Academy/MusiCares CEO Harvey Mason Jr., who revealed the event would also serve as a fundraiser for wildfire relief efforts in the city.

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles,” Mason wrote in a letter to Recording Academy members. “This city is our home, and we mourn the loss of life and destruction that have come to it in recent days.”

Mason highlighted the Academy’s efforts to provide aid, noting that the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort was launched with a $1 million donation to support music industry professionals affected by the fires. With additional contributions, over $2 million in emergency aid has already been distributed.

The event will honor first responders and raise additional funds for wildfire victims. “In close coordination with local authorities to ensure public safety and responsible use of area resources, the 67th GRAMMY Awards telecast on CBS on February 2nd will proceed as planned,” Mason said. “This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose.”

The devastating wildfires have left a tragic mark on Los Angeles, claiming at least 24 lives and destroying countless homes. As of Monday, containment efforts continue, with the Palisades Fire only 14 percent contained, while other major fires like the Eaton and Hurst Fires show more progress.

Mason emphasized the unifying power of music, adding, “The GRAMMYs will not only honor the artistry and achievements of our music community but also serve as a platform to amplify the spirit of resilience that defines this great city of Los Angeles.”
