Rihanna is speaking out after A$AP Rocky was found not guilty in his felony assault trial. To recap, the rapper—real name Rakim Mayers—was accused of firing a handgun at his former friend A$AP Relli during a 2021 altercation. He faced two felony charges of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and could have been sentenced to up to 24 years in prison if convicted. However, on Feb. 18, a Los Angeles court ruled in his favor, clearing him of all charges.
Following the not-guilty verdict, Rocky was visibly emotional, jumping over the stand to embrace his loved ones. In an online video, he can be heard saying, “Thank y’all for saving my life. Thank y’all for making the right decision.” He later spoke again at a post-trial conference.
Rihanna, who shares two young children with Rocky, also reacted to the news. The couple, who went public with their relationship in 2020, are parents to 2-year-old RZA and 1-year-old Riot. Taking to Instagram, Rihanna wrote, “The Glory belongs to God and God alone. THANKFUL, HUMBLED BY HIS MERCY!”
She also made it clear she wasn’t here for any negative energy. Outside the courtroom, a reporter loudly asked Rocky, “A$AP, how does it feel to lose your childhood friend?” Rihanna swiftly shut it down, firing back, “How you think it feels?”
With the trial behind them, Rocky and Rihanna can now move forward with their family.
