In the wake of the frightening shooting incident at Rihanna’s Beverly Hills home, the singer is ramping up security measures. On Tuesday (Mar.17), TMZ cameras spotted the “Diamonds” singer and A$AP Rocky in NYC. A squad of six security guards was seen escorting the couple as they left a Manhattan building. Witnesses say the couple didn’t waste any time, moving quickly to their vehicles. A source told PEOPLE that while she was left shaken after the “terrifying incident,” she’s grateful that “everyone is safe.” The source claims that Rihanna heard shots but initially was confused about what exactly happened.

“Even with a great security team in place, it’s scary to realize that something like this can still happen,” the source says. “Rihanna heard the shots, but was initially confused about what happened. She doesn’t understand why someone would target her family.” The woman who fired nearly 10 rounds of gunfire into the singer’s Los Angeles home was recently identified by authorities. The female suspect, 35-year-old Florida native Ivana Lisette Ortiz, remains in custody. Ortiz has been charged with attempted murder, with bail set at $10,000,000.

Rihanna’s Children Were Home During Shooting

According to LAPD officials, the suspect fired several rounds from inside her vehicle—a white Tesla—in the direction of the singer’s home. The vehicle had been parked across the street from the property gate. Rihanna lives at home with her boyfriend A$AP Rocky and their three children, RZA, Riot, and Rocki, who were home at the time of the incident.

The front of the residence’s property gates was “riddled” with bullets, with nearly four rounds striking the home, NBC4 Los Angeles says. As far as motive, no further details have been released. The police department’s Robbery-Homicide Division will be taking the lead in the investigation. “I was a little shocked,” a neighbor woman told NBC4. “We don’t hear this kind of thing in this neighborhood. It’s pretty quiet.” Law enforcement sources revealed that no injuries were reported and that the singer—who was home alone— was left unharmed.
