Russell Simmons remains resolute in his decision to stay in Bali amid mounting legal challenges. The latest accusation against him comes from an anonymous former Def Jam employee, known as Jane Doe, who is currently suing Simmons for alleged sexual assault. Doe has now leveled an additional allegation, claiming that Simmons forged her signature on a document dating back to the late 90s, related to her departure from Def Jam. She argues that even if the document were authentic, it would not invalidate her rape accusation but would only pertain to minor financial matters and her exit from the company.
Simmons has vehemently refuted these new claims, asserting that music executive Lyor Cohen previously confirmed the authenticity of the signature. Despite the escalation in his legal battles, Simmons shows no indication of returning to the United States anytime soon. He reportedly intends to continue residing in Bali, where he has made his home since 2018.
In an exclusive statement to AllHipHop, Simmons clarified his stance, emphasizing his absence from New York and his lack of intention to return or reside there in the future. He also provided insight into his residency history, noting that prior to relocating to Bali, he had been a resident of California for nine years, paying state taxes there. Presently, he pays California non-resident state taxes. This decision to remain in Bali underscores Simmons’ determination to steer clear of the legal issues awaiting him in the United States, opting instead for the perceived seclusion and distance from legal entanglements offered by his Bali residence.
