Scarface has shared a positive update about his health following open heart surgery. The Geto Boys legend took to Instagram on October 8th to reflect on his recovery and express his gratitude. He revealed that the surgery, which took place six weeks ago, “could’ve [gone] either way,” but he’s thankful to be back on his feet. “6wks ago I underwent open heart surgery, to be upright and smiling today shows you that God ain’t nothing to play with,” Scarface wrote alongside a photo of himself at the Grandmaster Awards in Las Vegas, where he honored fellow Hip Hop icons Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Caz, and Roxanne Shanté.

Scarface added, “Again I say, I’m grateful, it could’ve went either way, yet I’m still alive.”

Back in August, Scarface alerted fans to his health issues by posting a photo from his hospital bed, hooked up to tubes and wires following heart surgery. While he didn’t share the exact cause of his hospitalization, he captioned the post with “Ouch… Grateful,” and a series of prayer emojis. The image showed him being cared for in the ICU at Houston Methodist Hospital.

The post received an outpouring of support from fellow rappers, including Slim Thug, E-40, DJ Premier, Twista, and more.

This wasn’t Scarface’s first major health battle. In 2021, after dealing with heart surgery, he underwent a kidney transplant, and the donor was his own son, Chris Jordan. Scarface praised his son for saving his life, sharing his love with a mix of humor: “He’s the best son a guy could have. Chris, you ain’t shit [laughs]… You saved my muthafuckin’ life. You low down muthafucka. Won’t let a n-gga die.”
