In the days before the NFL Draft, Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe faced mounting scrutiny after a civil lawsuit accused him of sexual assault.

The case dominated headlines, fueled by a misstep from his legal team. Attorney Lanny Davis publicly confirmed that Sharpe had offered at least $10 million to settle, a revelation that drew more criticism and amplified the controversy.

Though the media attention has since quieted, Sharpe still hasn’t filed a formal response more than two months after the complaint was submitted. Most civil defendants are expected to respond within 30 days of being served, though legal extensions are often granted.

Despite that grace period, the Clark County, Nevada court docket shows no official answer from Sharpe. Instead, several attorneys have submitted motions to be added to the case. A hearing on those motions is now scheduled for July 9, after being postponed from June 30.

At a press conference held shortly after the suit was filed, Davis said Sharpe planned to file a counterclaim. However, no such legal action has appeared in court records. The silence has left observers wondering whether Sharpe’s legal team is stalling or preparing a more aggressive legal strategy.

Less than a week after the case became public, Sharpe took a leave from ESPN, where he serves as an NFL analyst. He has yet to confirm whether he will return in time for preseason coverage. With the Hall of Fame Game set for July 31, his absence remains a key question for both fans and network executives.

The ongoing delay in Shannon Sharpe’s legal response has raised more questions than answers. For now, all eyes are on the July 9 hearing, which could finally shed light on his defense strategy—or further complicate a case already clouded by uncertainty.
