Shaquille O’Neal, best known as Shaq, isn’t holding out hope for Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson’s new romance.

On a recent episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq, the NBA Hall of Famer offered a blunt prediction about the couple’s future—one he believes will end before the NBA season begins.

“Six weeks,” O’Neal said plainly after co-host Adam Lefkoe mentioned the relationship between the Grammy-winning rapper and the Dallas Mavericks star. When pressed, he doubled down without hesitation, repeating the forecast as the room erupted in laughter. Guest Mike Tyson offered a more generous take, but O’Neal’s skepticism was clear.

Despite his doubts, Megan and Thompson appear unbothered. The couple made their red carpet debut at the Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in New York City, confirming the relationship after weeks of speculation. They’ve since posted gym date clips on social media, showing off their chemistry while lifting weights and sharing laughs.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Megan called Thompson “the nicest person I’ve ever met in my life,” describing their first meeting as something out of a film. She declined to share details but said the moment felt “like a movie.”

O’Neal’s comments reflect a broader curiosity—and cynicism—about celebrity pairings, especially those straddling music and sports. Megan, known for her independence and chart-topping success, and Thompson, praised for his quiet consistency on the court, present a pairing that feels both unlikely and intriguing.

Whether Megan will be courtside when the Mavericks season tips off remains uncertain. Still, for now, the couple seems comfortable embracing the spotlight, even as some—including O’Neal—remain doubtful of its longevity.

Shaq’s prediction may be hanging over their heads, but the final score of this off-court pairing hasn’t been written yet.
