Julez Smith, the son of singer Solange Knowles, is speaking out after becoming the subject of online speculation regarding his sexuality.
Julez took a moment to address the situation directly, making it clear that he’s unbothered by the chatter and focused on living life on his own terms.
While on a recent livestream Smith was asked, “What’s the hardest part about being you?”
“Misconceptions,” he answered.
Jules goes on to say his been “criticized” since the start of his life. “Look — the first time I ever heard of myself in the media was I was in seventh grade, and my mom posted this picture of me,” Julez said. “I was dressed as LL Cool J. I had like this red jumpsuit, I was 13 at the time. Mind you, I had a girlfriend at the time. I went to school and my girlfriend showed me a picture that my mom posted.”
“This is grown-a*s adults who was calling me gay at what, 13?” he continued.
Although Smith comes from a musically talented family, he doesn’t think he’ll take up a career in music. “I messed around with production, making beats and stuff,” he said. “I like executive producing—putting people together and creating a sound. But I never wanted to rap or sing. That was never my thing.”
