Soulja Boy is facing more legal issues after being arrested in Los Angeles early Sunday morning, August 3. Police say the rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was a passenger in a car that was pulled over by officers just after 2:30 a.m. near Melrose Avenue and Genesee Avenue. During the stop, officers reportedly noticed a firearm inside the vehicle. After investigating, they arrested Soulja Boy on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a gun.
According to Billboard, police have not shared why the car was initially pulled over or any other details about the firearm. It is also unknown if anyone else in the vehicle will be charged.
Before the arrest, the 35-year-old artist was actively posting on social media. His Instagram Story featured videos taken outside his SODMG store in Los Angeles, in the recording studio, and clips from his birthday night out at Poppy nightclub.
This latest arrest adds to a long list of legal troubles for Soulja Boy. Earlier this year, a civil court in Los Angeles ruled against him in a lawsuit filed by a former personal assistant. She accused him of rape, and the court ordered him to pay $4 million in damages. In a separate case from 2023, he was told to pay $471,900 to his ex-girlfriend Kayla Myers after she accused him of assault and kidnapping in a 2020 incident.
Back in 2019, he was also taken into custody for violating his probation from a previous weapons case. That resulted in a jail sentence and required community service. Authorities have not released further updates on the current case, and the rapper has yet to respond publicly.
