Tay-K is likely to spend the rest of his life behind bars after being sentenced to 80 years in prison for the murder of photographer Mark Saldivar, News 4 San Antonio reported.
On Tuesday (April 15), the ruling came forth after a jury convicted him of murder but not of capital murder, which would have given him a mandatory life sentence. This is Tay-K’s second murder charge in six years.
Currently, Tay-K is serving a 55-year sentence for a separate murder conviction, and it was not disclosed if the sentences will be served concurrently. It also was not made known when or if he would be eligible for parole.
District Court Judge Stephanie Boy had words for Tay-K after the sentence was handed down.
I do realize that while this is a lot of time, you’re still alive. You can still better yourself,” Boyd said, according to KENS 5. “But the complainant in this case is deceased, and you need to internalize that the complainant in this case is deceased. You’re going to have to make changes.”
In 2017, Tay-K was found guilty of attempted to rob Saldivar at gunpoint, which ending with the rapper fatally shooting the photographer.
Back in 2019, he was sentenced to 55 years in prison for a murder that occurred during a home robbery in 2016. After the murder and his attempts to escape the clutches of law enforcement became the inspiration for his hit song “The Race” in 2017.
Eventually, Tay-K was ordered to serve house arrest, but cut off his ankle monitor just before his hearing for the 2016 murder.
