The alleged “Drake Curse” has been discussed many times in the pop culture sphere, and now it’s come up once again. Recently, Drake lost $565,000 — nearly half a million — after betting on Tyson Fury’s recent boxing match. The then-undisputed champ lost his status, and a new winner was crowned: Oleksandr Usyk. The high-profile fight happened in Saudi Arabia on Saturday (May 18).
While the fans of Usyk were overjoyed, Drake might not be as enthusiastic. Had Fury won, the rapper would’ve collected over $1,000,000. This wasn’t his first loss, earlier this year the rapper lost another six figures after betting on Another Joshua, however, Joshua would eventually lose to Francis Ngannou.
Drake’s Long History Of Losses In Sports Betting
While Drake appears to be living the high life, he’s taken major losses, especially regarding his extensive sports betting history. Earlier this month, he lost a quarter of a million dollars on the Spanish Grand Prix. It seems he made the wrong choice after betting on racer Charles Leclerc, who lost power on his 27th lap. Then, in a mixed-sports parlay bet — where he had The Nets, the Bluejays, and the Mavericks winning — things seemingly fell apart after the Nets lost to the Celtics. This loss cost the “Slime You Out” rapper $314,000.
In other news, it seems Drake found something to focus on after being embroiled in a beef with Kendrick Lamar. Things kicked off after the release of Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” which featured a verse from Lamar, where he presumably took multiple shots at Drake. “And your best work is a light pack/ Ngga, Prince outlived Mike Jack’, Ngga, bum,” Lamar rapped. “‘Fore all your dogs gettin’ buried/That’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see Pet Sematary (Yeah).”
