Timothée Chalamet and Kendrick Lamar linked up for an unexpected but compelling conversation ahead of Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX halftime show. The two artists, each celebrated in their fields, shared insights on creativity, vulnerability, and the value of failure.

In a three-minute black-and-white clip that aired on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, the Oscar-nominated actor and Grammy-winning rapper cruised in a Buick GNX. Their conversation touched on the artistic process and the discipline required to keep growing.

Lamar opened by asking Chalamet how he sharpens his craft between projects. The Dune star admitted that acting without an audience feels like “a form of insanity.” He spoke about the importance of warming up and shaking off self-consciousness before stepping into a role. Reflecting on past struggles, he said, “The most important part of a bad day is how you leave it. If you can walk away with a positive attitude, there’s nothing to fear.”

Lamar agreed, revealing that he’s constantly writing, even when the work goes nowhere. “I have to keep the pen moving. It’s my form of sanity,” he said. “It also gives me the opportunity to learn about myself.”

He emphasized that songwriting requires emotional depth and honesty. “A lot of the records I write, man, I wouldn’t have even known these things about myself if it weren’t for an instrumental behind it,” he said.

Chalamet, a longtime fan, took a moment to acknowledge Lamar’s impact. “I’ve been listening to your music forever, and look where you are now—Super Bowl halftime show. You just keep climbing, man. It’s amazing.”

The actor, currently up for an Oscar for playing Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, has deep ties to music. He’s spoken about how Kid Cudi inspired his artistic journey, and the two have since become friends. Clips of a teenage Chalamet rapping for a math class project and performing as Nicki Minaj in a high school talent show have gone viral.

Kendrick Lamar performs at the NFL Super Bowl LIX Halftime on Sunday, February 9, via various streaming platforms.
