Tory Lanez has been hit with a third felony charge as he awaits jury selection in the trail over claims that he shot his former friend Megan Thee Stallion. The case has been pending since 2020.

According to Rolling Stone, prosecutors added the new charge of discharging a firearm with gross negligence. Opening statements and testimony are expected to begin on Monday, Dec. 12,

On July 12, Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson is accused of pointing a semiautomatic 9mm handgun at the “Body” rapper’s feet, yelling, “Dance, bitch!” and opening fire. This resulted in a foot injury that she had to receive medical treatment for.

According to the prosecutors, Peterson “personally inflicted great bodily injury” upon Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, after the two got into an argument while riding in an SUV in Los Angeles, California. The “Say It” hitmaker pleaded not guilty to one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, according to court documents.

The new charge will carry a possible six-year prison sentence and still qualifies as a deportable crime if jurors decide to convict him of negligent discharge instead of the assault count. If convicted on all counts, the Canadian citizen will continue to face the same maximum sentence which is over 22 years and eight months.
