An unreleased version of Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s long-awaited track “New Body” featuring Ice Spice actually exists — but fans might never hear it.
In a recent conversation with Complex, Ty Dolla $ign confirmed that the Bronx rapper laid down a verse for the record, originally meant to feature Nicki Minaj. “I don’t know how people even find out about this stuff,” Ty said. “Yeah, she made a verse for it, but we never did anything with it.” He added that the track still exists “on a hard drive somewhere,” though he’s unsure if it’ll ever be released.
“New Body” was first recorded during the Yandhi era, when Kanye was experimenting with the sound that would eventually shape Jesus Is King. The track was shelved after Minaj declined to clear her verse. In 2024, Ye revealed that he had reached out to both Ice Spice and Doja Cat to reimagine the record, reportedly asking “who sounds best” over the beat, according to YesJulz. Later, Kanye told fans on Instagram that Ice Spice’s version was submitted — but her team pulled it before release.
When asked if “New Body” could still make streaming platforms, Ty Dolla $ign admitted his disappointment. “I wish it would’ve,” he said. “I think it would’ve been a huge song.” He hinted that the only reason it never came out was because of Minaj’s earlier refusal to approve the track.
Nicki addressed the situation in December 2023 during an Instagram Live. “That train has left the station,” she told fans. “No disrespect, but I just dropped Pink Friday 2. Why would I put out a song that’s been out for years?”
Despite its limbo status, “New Body” has become a cult favorite online, with leaked versions circulating for years. Fans continue to treat it like a lost gem in Ye’s catalog.
For now, Ty Dolla $ign is focused on his next move. His album TYCOON arrives October 17, featuring collaborations with Kodak Black, YG, and Tory Lanez — proving his grind hasn’t slowed, even as one of rap’s most mythical tracks stays in the vault.
