Attorney Tyrone Blackburn has accused Fat Joe and his defense attorney Joe Tacopina of orchestrating a public smear campaign, according to an exclusive by AllHipHop.
Blackburn claims the rap star and Tacopina are using law enforcement to undermine a $20 million federal lawsuit filed on behalf of Blackburn’s client, Terrance “T.A.” Dixon. The dispute, centered on allegations of exploitation, sexual coercion, and unpaid labor, has evolved into one of the most contentious legal battles in the music industry this year.
In recent court filings, Blackburn said the alleged campaign has severely affected his health and professional standing. He claims the defendants’ actions were intended to damage his credibility and derail Dixon’s case.
“These actions not only prejudiced me in the eyes of the public and my peers but inflicted substantial personal and reputational harm,” Blackburn wrote. He added that the ordeal has placed him under medical treatment for stress-related conditions.
The federal complaint, filed in June 2025, accuses Fat Joe of forcing Dixon to perform thousands of explicit acts under threats of violence while denying him compensation and songwriting credit. The rapper has denied the claims, calling them “disgusting lies” and labeling the case an extortion attempt.
Tyrone Blackburn Accuses Fat Joe & Joe Tacopina Of Smear Campaign
Tacopina, who represents Fat Joe, filed a countersuit in April, accusing Dixon and Blackburn of defamation, extortion, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He described the initial lawsuit as “retaliatory fiction” and accused Blackburn of filing “bogus pleadings” containing AI-generated citations.
The legal dispute intensified on May 12, when Blackburn allegedly struck a 66-year-old process server with his vehicle while papers were being delivered. He was later arrested on charges including felony assault, harassment, and reckless driving. Blackburn maintains that the arrest was a coordinated setup.
“Defense counsel coordinated with law enforcement to secure my arrest,” he said, claiming the incident was fabricated to damage his reputation.
Blackburn also alleged that Roc Nation aided in concealing Dixon’s authorship rights and royalties. Fat Joe’s legal team has denied all wrongdoing and accused Dixon of fabricating claims to force a settlement.
The case remains active in the Southern District of New York, with hearings scheduled through late 2025 as both sides prepare for trial.
