Wendy Williams was rushed to a New York hospital Monday after throwing a handwritten plea for help from the window of her assisted living facility. Police responded to a wellness check at the request of concerned individuals after the former talk show host, currently under court-ordered guardianship, signaled for assistance.
Williams, 60, who has been staying in the facility’s memory ward while challenging her legal guardianship, was later seen at the window, waving to a New York Post reporter while speaking on the phone. The note she had tossed read simply: “Help! Wendy!!”
Authorities arrived around 11:15 a.m. after receiving reports of the distress signal, according to law enforcement sources. Shortly after, Williams emerged from the building, escorted by officers, and was assisted into an ambulance.
The incident comes just as Williams was preparing for her highly anticipated return to television. She was scheduled to make an appearance Friday on ABC’s The View, marking her first daytime TV appearance in four years. Her former co-executive producer, Suzanne Bass, hinted at the comeback in an Instagram post Sunday, writing, “Prepping a very special friend for her appearance @theviewabc to air this Friday. #freewendy.” It remains unclear whether the segment was intended to be live or conducted remotely.
Williams’ struggles with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia have been well-documented, as has her legal battle to regain control of her personal and financial affairs. Since 2022, she has been under the guardianship of Sabrina Morrissey, who previously stated in court filings that Williams had become “cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and incapacitated.”
Despite those claims, Wendy Williams has consistently asserted she is of sound mind. In a recent phone interview with TMZ, she described her guardianship as a “prison” and claimed she was not allowed to leave the facility on her own. However, she recently won a small legal victory when Morrissey told a judge she would consider allowing Williams to undergo a new medical evaluation.
Her fight for autonomy continues to raise concerns among fans and supporters, many of whom believe she deserves a reassessment of her condition. Whether her scheduled television appearance will proceed remains uncertain, but the latest developments have only intensified public scrutiny of her situation.
