Patrick Houston Jr., the son of Memphis rap veteran Project Pat, was shot and killed in January—a fatal attack that shocked the city’s South Memphis community and cast a long shadow over one of hip-hop’s most storied families. For months, the case remained quiet. Now, nearly half a year later, there’s been a major break in the investigation.
On July 15, U.S. Marshals arrested Talia Jones in Minneapolis on charges connected to Houston Jr.’s death. According to authorities, Jones resisted arrest, and deputies noted she “did not go quietly.” Her capture comes weeks after Memphis police issued a warrant on June 27, suggesting the case—long stalled in public view—had finally gained traction.
Jones is now being held in Minnesota while investigators work to determine the extent of her involvement. While details remain limited, she is suspected of playing a role in luring Houston Jr. to the scene where he was killed. Whether she acted alone or as part of a broader plot has yet to be made public.
Project Pat retreats, seeking faith and justice after son’s death
Houston Jr. was gunned down in broad daylight on January 10 in the Imogene Heights neighborhood, at the intersection of Ketchum Road and Long Street—not far from Charjean Park. Police responding to the scene found him with at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
His funeral was held on January 25 at M.J. Edwards Funeral Home. He was buried at Memphis Memory Gardens. Since then, Project Pat has largely stayed out of the spotlight, focusing instead on his work with the Go Foundation—a nonprofit he founded to support incarcerated individuals—and continuing his efforts in prison outreach. On social media, he’s occasionally shared words of reflection, expressing gratitude and faith despite the loss.
As the investigation continues, it’s unclear whether more arrests will follow. But for now, the quiet progress in the case marks a turn in what has been a painful chapter for Houston Jr.’s family and the Memphis community still mourning his death.
